The films will be made with up to 700 young men from schools and youth centres across the West Midlands. Led by a large team of dancers, film makers and composers, the films will all be ready to be screened in July as part of the Region's Live Screens Programme. The Physical Fellowship

2012 will see Highly Sprung return to the Belgrade Theatre with a five day extended version of our physical theatre festival The Physical Fellowship. This year will see eight schools from across the region taking part in workshops, masterclasses and performances that explore and celebrate physical theatre for young people.

The Physical Fellowship 2012 Revolutions

One purpose, one pursuit…

The Midland’s only physical theatre festival.

Will you join?

Following the success of last year’s Physical Fellowship, Revolutions will be a five-day festival of the best physical performance by young people from across the region.

Mission: To convert over 300 young people to the thrills of physical theatre. Through intensive workshops and opportunities to work alongside professionals the young performers will become producers, directors and choreographers for the first time.

The Physical Fellowship will allow audiences to discover and see new approaches to creating theatre, filled with energy, excitement and exhilarating ideas that make the impossible, possible.

Working with eight partner schools Highly Sprung will produce eight original physical performance shorts exploring the theme ‘revolutions’.

Headlining the festival Highly Sprung youth will once again team up with professional performers to create a stunning new piece of physical theatre. Pushing the boundaries of art and science the piece unpicks the influence scientific breakthrough has had on our everyday life and asks questions our pursuit for scientific advancement that can often leave us questioning our own humanity.

“Beautiful, mesmerising, terrifying, heartbreaking!” Audience

Child of Terror

Depicting a world destroyed by violence and terror. Through the eyes of the innocent witness as lives are thrown, forced and dragged into the balance, what will remain only time will tell. The story is an epic journey of one boy and one girl where only love holds the answers.

Inspired by Bertolt Brecht’s ‘The Caucasian Chalk Circle’, this is a story for the modern generation of terror.

A Tour Less Ordinary-

Highly Sprung Performance Co. will touring a re-imagined version of thier 2010 production Child of Terror in autumn 2012.

‘Child of Terror’ premiered to great acclaim in 2010 at The Belgrade Theatre, Coventry and is now being developed into a touring project unique to each venue it visits.

“A phenomenal performance! Energetic, awe-inspiring, enchanting, powerful and truly excellent!”- Audience

“Never before have I seen a more generous performance. Generous in so many ways…The way the space was shared by the adult and youth cast, how much the young people had benefitted from the generosity of the professional cast and how generous the young performers were in what they gave to the audience.”- Audience

The performance consists of a core cast of three professional performers and two emerging artists, who will be supported by a cast of up to forty young performers from schools and the communities local to each performance venue.

Highly Sprung have a commitment to engaging young people in professional performance and are looking to work in partnership with venues and their associated education departments to offer local young people the opportunity to participate in ‘Child of Terror’.

The project is focussed on the development of talent in young people as performance makers and young creatives.

The young people will be directly involved in the devising process and will be given the opportunity to shape and develop the performance using their own ideas and skills as well as learning new ones under the direction of Highly Sprung’s artistic directors.
