Physical Fellowship

The Physical Fellowship

The UK’s only physical performance festival exclusively for young people.

Highly Sprung’s Physical Fellowship was established over ten years ago to give young people the opportunity to explore their understanding and experience of physical theatre.

To this day, it remains a unique and exciting opportunity for 11 to 19-year-olds to immerse themselves completely in physical theatre practice, working with renowned professional artists to make and present original work.

Produce

Highly Sprung artists hold two whole-day workshops with participating schools and youth groups to teach physical theatre skills. Students are inspired to use physical techniques to then create their own piece of original physical theatre.

Participate

Students then attend a day of workshops, seminars and masterclasses delivered by visiting professional companies, including Frantic Assembly and Complicité. Here they further develop and explore new skills with leading professionals.

Perform

Students are then given a professional platform to present their work in a festival showcase, supported by a headline performance from Highly Sprung’s own youth theatre company, Sprungsters.

The Physical Fellowship 2024: Power

Mon 1st – Fri 5th July 2024, Belgrade Theatre

For 2024 we are exploring the theme of Power.

When young people understand power it gives them the tools to speak up for what’s right and make positive changes. Physical Fellowship POWER is about being able to use power to positively make a difference. To  create a fairer and better world for everyone.

Each evening features a programme of original physical performance work from local school and youth groups, finishing with a headline performance of Say No More from our youth group Spriung Advance Plus.
