Working with children and young people is at the heart of everything we do. Our aim is to engage participants in theatre to inspire learning, develop skills and spark their imagination.
We deliver in-school physical performance workshops, special projects and residencies to schools across the UK, covering a huge variety of curriculum-based topics from pre-school to 18.
We are passionate about developing physical performance and collaborative working as key skills. Our hugely popular Physical Theatre Fellowship is the UK’s only physical performance festival exclusively for young people. We also deliver CPD to educators, teachers and youth leaders.
For 2021, we have launched Ready, Box Set, Go! A new digital resource for primary and secondary schools with a series of engaging, dynamic packages.
Ready, Box Set, Go
Using Highly Sprung’s signature approach, we have created a new digital resource for primary and secondary schools, enabling us to remotely deliver high quality arts programmes. Designed to influence and inspire how children and young people create and think, our tailored packages give creative ownership of the programme, develop critical thinking skills and cultivate an awareness of the wider world.
HOW DOES READY, BOX SET GO WORK?
Each package comes with a pre-made box of physical and digital resources, using a Highly Sprung story or performance as an inspiration point. Throughout the delivery of these sessions, you won’t be on your own. Highly Sprung will be here to support teachers every step of the way, with structured guidance, CPD and lesson plans.
Each box set comes with:
- A physical box of resources with props, activity materials and worksheets.
- Access to online pre-recorded performances.
- Digital activities delivered by professional artists, both live and pre-recorded.
- Creative challenges to complete and take part in.
- Teaching frameworks and schemes of work for each session, with easy-to-follow lesson plans.
- A pre-recorded CPD session for teachers from professional artists, enabling you to confidently lead sessions.

Be Inspired
Each year we undertake a major cultural project with local school children aged 7-9, inspiring them to explore maths and science through physical theatre and movement. One Giant Leap was our hugely successful flagship project in 2019.
In 2020, City Beat saw six Coventry primary schools explore the concept of ‘healthy hearts’. For 2021, we have expanded the programme to City Beat Online as part of Ready, Box Set, Go – our engaging digital resource for primary schools.
City Beat
Pupils take part in workshops, performances and practical creative sessions to explore the heart scientifically, aesthetically and anatomically. They also learn how to keep their hearts healthy now and in the future.
City Beat is delivered in partnership with the University of Warwick Medical School, Culture Coventry and ThinkTank Birmingham. The project will finish with a public exhibition at either the Herbert Art Gallery and Museum or the Coventry Transport Museum.

One Giant Leap
One Giant Leap was our flagship project in 2019, designed to help Key Stage 2 children explore maths and science in new and fun ways through physical theatre and movement.
Inspiration Days
Children went to a professional physical theatre performance in an arts venue to start to learn how physical performance can help explore familiar topics in the classroom.
Every child was invited to an inspiration day at a cultural or heritage venue. Here they took part in interactive dance and drama tours, using dance and storytelling to make connections with the exhibitions.
Artist Days
Schools received four inhouse artist days where children worked with professionals in physical performance exploring topics related to the project theme and inspired by the maths and science curriculum.
Every project ended with a dynamic performance, giving each child the opportunity to showcase the work they’d made with artists in school.
