Schools

Working with children and young people is at the heart of everything we do. Our aim is to engage participants in theatre to inspire learning, develop skills and spark their imagination.

We deliver in-school physical performance workshops, special projects and residencies to schools across the UK, covering a huge variety of curriculum-based topics from pre-school to 18.

We are passionate about developing physical performance and collaborative working as key skills. Our hugely popular Physical Theatre Fellowship is the UK’s only physical performance festival exclusively for young people. We also deliver CPD to educators, teachers and youth leaders.

“My daughters took part in a workshop about levers, forces, engineering, astronauts and dancing. Their faces are a picture and the professionals are just awesome!”

Ready, BoxSet, Go

A green, pink and blue logo reading 'Ready Box Set Go.' It is surrounded by a grey square.

Ready BoxSet Go is a new teaching resource for Primary and Secondary Schools. Using our signature approach and expertise, we have packaged up the ‘Highly Sprung experience’ in a way which is accessible and deliverable in current conditions.

We are offering a range of varied, engaging ‘box-sets’ to deliver in the classroom, packed full of physical and digital resources for Key Stages 1 to 5. Each inspired by a Highly Sprung story or performance, box sets address a range of themes and will make a real difference to children and young people as schools return.

HOW DOES READY, BOXSET GO WORK?

Each box set comes with:

  • A physical box of resources with props, activity materials and worksheets.
  • Access to online pre-recorded performances.
  • Digital activities delivered by professional artists, both live and pre-recorded.
  • Creative challenges to complete and take part in.
  • Teaching frameworks and schemes of work for each session, with easy-to-follow lesson plans.
  • A pre-recorded CPD session for teachers from professional artists, enabling you to confidently lead sessions.

Our Primary School packages connect to a wide range of curriculum points through ‘Arty’s Broken Heart,’ ‘A New Book for the Emperor’, and ‘Hidden In Plain Sight’.

For Secondary Schools, we have ‘Fall Out’ and ‘Urban Astronaut’.  These schemes of work build valuable skills for GCSE and A-Level devising projects through giving insight into the Highly Sprung devising process.

Primary Schools

Workshops, residencies and projects to explore topics in exciting and immersive ways, inspiring pupils to develop their understanding and extend their learning.

Bespoke Workshops

Our creative exploration workshops kickstart any topic, inspiring pupils to develop their understanding and extend their earning. Workshops often culminate in original performances by the children as part of assemblies or family events.

Residencies

We match your school to the right artist in residence to ensure physical learning sessions are embedded in the curriculum throughout the academic year. Young children really benefit from high-quality cultural experiences in school.

Creative Curriculum

Our expertise in kinaesthetic learning comes to the classroom, exploring maths and science through games, problem-solving and physical activities. Our work encourages creative and divergent thinking in pupils and helps extend and develop teachers’ practice.

Secondary Schools

Students are offered opportunities to work with experienced practitioners, gaining new skills in physical theatre performance and in devising their own work.

Physical Theatre & Devising

Using our unique approach to theatre making, students work with experienced practitioners to gain new skills in exploring texts and topics in greater depth, as well as learning how to devise and present their own performance.

Physical Fellowship

The UK’s only physical performance festival exclusively for young people wanting to develop physical theatre skills through professional training and performance.

Be Inspired

Each year we undertake a major cultural project with local school children aged 7-9, inspiring them to explore maths and science through physical theatre and movement. One Giant Leap was our hugely successful flagship project in 2019.

In 2020, City Beat saw six Coventry primary schools explore the concept of ‘healthy hearts’. For 2021, we have expanded the programme to City Beat Online as part of Ready, Box Set, Go our engaging digital resource for primary schools.

City Beat

Pupils take part in workshops, performances and practical creative sessions to explore the heart scientifically, aesthetically and anatomically. They also learn how to keep their hearts healthy now and in the future.

City Beat is delivered in partnership with the University of Warwick Medical School, Culture Coventry and ThinkTank Birmingham. The project will finish with a public exhibition at either the Herbert Art Gallery and Museum or the Coventry Transport Museum.

One Giant Leap

One Giant Leap was our flagship project in 2019, designed to help Key Stage 2 children explore maths and science in new and fun ways through physical theatre and movement.

Inspiration Days

Children went to a professional physical theatre performance in an arts venue to start to learn how physical performance can help explore familiar topics in the classroom.

Every child was invited to an inspiration day at a cultural or heritage venue. Here they took part in interactive dance and drama tours, using dance and storytelling to make connections with the exhibitions.

Artist Days

Schools received four inhouse artist days where children worked with professionals in physical performance exploring topics related to the project theme and inspired by the maths and science curriculum.

Every project ended with a dynamic performance, giving each child the opportunity to showcase the work they’d made with artists in school.
