By Highly Sprung. Commissioned by the Coventry City of Culture Trust, the Canal and River Trust, The Arches Worcester Festivals at Severn Arts and Basingstoke Festival.
In a world where engineering, imagination and dynamic movement combine, Highly Sprung introduce a unique take on aerial dance with their new gyroscopic flying machine. This is aerial with no strings attached.
Lost on a floating island of plastic, two people find themselves trapped in a cycle of destruction and waste. Fuelled by their need to better themselves and outdo each other, they shift, glide and collide, at the detriment of their flotilla of bottles, bags and single-use straws… until a guiding light from mythology arrives, twisting, turning and floating high above them; showing them a new way? Or teaching them a lesson?
The idea for CastAway manifested as a response to the ‘Great Pacific Garbage patch’. A floating island of everlasting plastic that has now grown to 6½ times the size of the UK. With the weight of plastic now greater than the weight of humanity CastAway will engage audiences in a spectacle that promotes debate and encourages inquiry- what better time than now to take action?
